Cappel’s is proud to present the Official Otis Driftwood Mask, from Rob Zombie€™s cult classic House of 1,000 Corpses.

Based on more than a hundred behind the scenes pictures, our youngest sculptor, 17 years old when he sculpted this piece, Connor Deless sculpted the ultimate Otis mask so that you can become Bill Moseley and his ultimate screen villain, Otis.

Care instructions for your Otis Driftwood Latex Mask:

Always store your mask out of direct sunlight. Keep your mask away from extreme hot or cold. After wearing, always clean the inside of your Otis Driftwood Maskout with a damp sponge, because over time sweat and oil from your skin can break down natural latex. Once dry, give the inside of your Otis Driftwood Mask a light dusting with cornstarch or any other non-talc powder. Never submerge your mask in water or scrub it. If your mask gets dusty, simply dust it with a dry cloth or feather duster.

This mask has hair. If the hair gets dirty, wipe the hair with a damp washcloth and restyle.

Making bigger eyeholes:

If better visibility is required use sharp scissors to increase the size of the eye holes.

How to Care for your Latex Mask

You’ve just bought the coolest, scariest, best political, most realistic latex mask ever made and you want to keep it for years to come! Here are some tips to help make you mask last. Latex is a natural fiber that if not cared for properly will eventually dry out and rot. But, we have latex masks in our family that are many years old and still look brand new. My mom still has a latex clown mask she bought from Cappel’s nearly 40 years ago!

Some things to keep in mind: Whenever you’re not wearing your mask, keep it out of direct sun light.  You might want to display your mask(s) and that is fine, even in a brightly lit room, as long as they are not hit by direct sunlight. If you prefer to pack them away from year to year, stuff them and store them in a box in a cool room that isn’t damp or humid.

But wait! There’s more! Before you display or store your mask take a damp sponge or damp paper towel and wipe the mask off and wipe it out to remove any sweat, oils, makeup or anything else that might be on the latex.  Let the mask dry.  Use a fat brush and some cornstarch and lightly brush inside the mask. This will wick all of the water up and keep the inside of the mask nice and dry. You can also wipe the outside of your mask with a damp cloth if it gets dirty and lightly wipe the hair and restyle it.

Put the mask on a Styro head or lightly stuff the inside of the mask with clean paper or cotton fiber cloth.  This will help the mask keep its form. Slide a plastic bag loosely over the mask to keep dust away.

These steps should help you keep your mask looking new for years and years.
